If I had one word to describe this movie, it would be 'gratuitous'. Nudity and sex just for decoration. Cash thrown around like it's nothing. Drugs everywhere. The violence was actually pretty tame, though, which was a surprise. Yeah, there was violence and death, but the main character actually was opposed to killing, so that's nice! I haven't seen the original Superfly, so I can't comment on which is better. If you like over-the-top action movies with a decent story and lots of nudity and plot holes, then this movie is for you!

Superfly tells the story of Priest, a not-so-small-time drug dealer trying to get the 'final score'. He's actually a pretty cool character. In a world of excess, he shows restraint. But this is definitely a glorification of the life of a drug dealer. In a strip club, they are showering the strippers with literally millions of dollars. Everyone has wads of hundreds. But then, there's a scene where one of the higher ups is stressed about $50,000. I don't think the writers/director took the time to see how small of an amount 500 bills is. They constantly just whip out giant rolls of cash which is $10-25k easily.

And this is really my biggest problem with the movie. These guys must have billions of dollars. They have golden plated guns and $600,000 watches and bet $50k on a roll of the dice. They filled a giant safe with hundreds. This would easily be hundreds of millions of dollars. In a matter of DAYS. I like movies about cool characters, but so many scenes in this movie was just so far over the top that it was hard to watch. There's a five minute long shower sex scene, for instance. The amount of money going through their hands is just insane. If you can get beyond that, it's actually not a bad movie, but it was just too hard for me to ignore.
